Today I spent my first day in a school visiting over 250 students. Wow, they were so excited to meet me. For most of them, I was the first pig they've ever seen in real life. And even without having to say anything, many of these wonderful kids commented that meeting me made them not want to eat meat any more or at least not eat pigs. And, as a pig, nothing could make me happier than knowing that my mere existence helps kids to reconsider the treatment of animals. I love that about kids. They have such great hearts and are willing to challenge the things that they had previously believed. They are willing to ask themselves if just because something has always been a certain way, is it possible that we need to rethink what had previously been accepted.
How Pum: How Pumpkin and Charlotte Came to Live With
Today I visited Colonial Williamsburg again and so many college students were so happy to see me and get a chance to sratch my head or take pictures of my outfit. And best of all, so many of them told me how I had made their day! Or that I was the first pig they had ever met and that I was so well behaved and sweet.
And I also ran into several people that had either met me before or seen me from a far. They knew my name and seemed glad to see me again.
I feel so lucky to have so many people be so nice to me and to seem to truly be happier as a result of having seen me. I hope that this will translate into a rethinking of how the world views and treats pigs (and all animals)!
Thanks to the generous donation of our good friend Claire Jones, I got some awesome new body pillows that I've been enjoying all morning. I think every little piglet should have two body pillows all to themselves. We'll see if my mom agrees. But, I'll share with her if she wants... because she's such a good mom!
We are very close to fully funding Charlotte's spay surgery through our
www.gofundme.com/spaycharlotte and as soon as we reach the goal amount we are going to select two winners of a set of pig greeting cards and one lucky winner will get this pig painting shown. So, please help us reach our goal and get one entry into the raffle for each $5 donated.
Thank you to everyone who has already donated!
